As a Greenpeace Activist, John Kelly read the following poem to President Bush's Task Force on Off Shore Drilling in Miami during June of 1989.
Nature's jewel of coral brilliance
Refracting Sun light through clear ocean's crystal,
Vibrant pulsating Life- swirling in molecular synchronization,
Abounding abundance of living energy!
Will this ecological system become prey
To Human Kind's addiction to petroleum?
Is greed: the desire for instant energy,
The quick fix, debauch luxury,
To destroy another of nature's naive beauties?
Will our coral treasures be blighted?
By sludge, sediment and crude oil?
