OUR MODERN HELL

We live in a time, unique, isolated, alone,
Through us rush reasons, the fool's only throne,
Surrounded by idleness and terror, finely honed,
By the mass media's filter, prevarication prone,
Diluting and shredding our awareness, we grunt and groan,
Irradiated flesh, deficient immune systems, brittle bones,
Our leaders are mindless clones!

Sky envelops our society in murky air,
Worn by mental frustration & stress, fibers tare,
We wonder: "Does anyone really care?"
As we feel doom stark and bare,
Future shock's perpetual scare,
Shrinking from Armageddon's stare.

High tech surveillance seizes our sights and sounds,
Honesty, integrity- real care is rarely found,
In creatively effective weapons terror abounds,
Greed, glory, and fear jewels our earthly crown,
We keep driving & running: around & around,
Like vulnerable, helpless bedazzled hounds,
Howling, whining. waiting to be run down.

Destiny's spirit grinds us under its boot
As ultraviolet radiation spatters and shoots,
Massive money masses our freedom loots,
As machines screech, rattle and toot,
Life's plan defiled by modern blight's funky root,
Debauchery & decadence the tree of life's current fruit.
