THE DAY OF THE COCKROACH
I take up my pen with a merry rhyme,
To tell a tale of a future plastic time.
It was when humans had left
The frizzled up earth ruined by theft.
All the forest clear cut, and ripped up,
The entire earth has become a disposable coffee cup!
The Sun is faded by radioactive dreary clouds,
Leaving this planet- a solitary shroud.
All tales of human life long since sung,
The earth has become a stinking pile of dung!
Atomic wars, plagues, crude oil, and dead smoke
Wiped out all life in one cosmic joke, (ha, ha, ha)
Almost nothing at all was left alive
So that God like souls could strive,
On that upward path to immortal perfection.
All was dead, stagnating with nothing left, worth detection.
Furry mammals no longer barked and purred,
Beautiful bird's high-pitched tones were no longer heard.
No fish swam in oil grimed and dirty water;
Fungus, bacteria and algae were included in the slaughter!
Flora, Fauna, life essences of all kinds
Left this planet seeking better climes and times.
Nature's Word was said
All of earth was Dead!
But there existed on earth a type of life
Immune to abuse by human strife.
A tough, adaptable, malleable sect,
They clung to earth's blighted vessel's deck!
Raid, DDT, and the Orkin Man,
Never exterminated this breed from the land
Waste, Styrene, and Dioxin lie sprawled,
Though debris and decay, the enduring insect crawled!
Thousand of years have gone by,
Since was heard man's last feeble cry. (Ahhhhhhhh!)
Earth, that floating garbage heap in space
Was left to littering existence in disgrace.
Unnatural gases pollutants and oils
Sent this planet's orbit into a frenzied coil.
Newton's gravitational laws all proved true,
Shaking foundation of the earth through and through.
Centuries of ice followed by centuries of fire,
Spiders, roaches and maggots crawled through the slimy mire.
Even after various types of former earthly life
Was chopped into fine grains by decay's eternal knife,
Bees, beetles, butterflies and ants,
Lived on and continued their courtly dance.
Thus higher insect Consciousness was enhanced
By fate's bizarre web of design and chance!
Millions of years have come and gone,
And Life's Magical Process has carried on,
Through flaming solar turmoil earth soared,
Plant life grew- ecological balance was restored!
Supreme Creative Being told the bug, "Multiply!"
And new types of insects took to the sky
They crept, they swam, they dug, and they flew,
Though out the earth they flourished and grew.
Of Earth's ages, this was "The peaches and creme".
Now, the mighty insect reigned supreme.
As Creative Mutation unfolded new forms,
Giant houseflies the mighty heavens stormed.
Loud shrieks from hoards of huge crickets sounded,
Shaking peeking mountains as shrill sound rebounded.
On every sector of earth's wide sphere,
The creeping, crawling, bugs were here!
Insects took on many shapes and sizes,
But one type of creeping beast won all of the prizes.
In this grotesque creature- intelligence grew,
Until civilization had begun anew!
It occurred through the means of slow evolution,
The result of much struggle and survival's confusion.
For nature's fairness there is much to say,
That in random DNA,
humans, dogs, roaches all had their day!
This crude breed proved quite elastic,
When all food was gone- they ate plastic.
Thus down times long corridor did approach,
Earth's Golden Age of the great civilization of
The giant Cockroach!
